A two-toned blueberry blue colour, Blueberry always appears as the designated leader, yet never overtly. Blueberry loves to play, and loves to figure out unique ways to bring people together. He refuses to give up, always encouraging his friends with words of hope when things seem impossible. Like all of the Hug-Me’z, Blueberry is a great friend and someone the people around him know they can turn to when they’re in a pinch! Watch for Blueberry’s ‘magic’ in future books!
Peach is the delicious colour of a ripe orange/yellow peach. She is a very brave and courageous Hug-Me who always speaks her mind and stands up for her friends and what she believes is the right thing to do. She is the first to volunteer when something seems spooky or difficult, and the first person to cheer on or congratulate her friends whenever they’re in need of motivation.
Snowberry is incredibly cute with fur that is a winter white with a little bluish tinge. Her colour attracts all children as we’ve seen through physical sales of our plush teddies. It’s hard to see her when she’s out in the snow, but thankfully she has a little dark blue bow in her hair. Snowberry is very sweet, lovable, comforting and extremely huggable! When her friends are hurt or feeling down, she is always there to comfort them and lend a helping hand (or hug!).
Fig is slapstick, giggles and mischief all wrapped up with kindness, allowing children (and people of all ages) to love him to bits as they laugh their hearts out with him. He’s a cute little, medium-brown-coloured guy with a great big attitude! He is comical, sharp-witted, and forever getting into trouble (trouble he’s created through his own actions!). His mischievous side also leads into his immense taste for adventure and inquisitiveness.
Cherry is the bright red colour of a cherry left in the beating sun. She is a little girl Hug-Me who is very tomboyish and wears a sweet polka-dot bow in her hair. She is best friends with Beautyberry, and they’re usually together, holding hands and joking around throughout the series. Cherry has a lovingly sarcastic personality, and loves to make jokes, keeping everyone’s spirits light and easing the heaviness in difficult and worrisome situations.
Now Beautyberry is every bit a little lady! She loves to dance, skip and sing. She loves to dress up and is forever fixing the little yellow/gold bow on her head. She loves art of all kinds – dancing, acting, drawing, you name it! – and has a very strong affinity for animals, often able to understand them in ways no one else can. She and Cherry are the best of friends!
Considered the seventh little Hug-Me, Little One Feather winds in and out of the storyline, kind of like a ‘special guest’ figure, and he sure is special! While his role will vary in prominence per episode, he is often seen wandering the vast landscapes of LOSH as a sort of lone wolf figure, beating to his own drum. Little One Feather is more in touch with nature than any of the other LOSH inhabitants and uses this connection to aid the Hug-Me’z along certain journeys. He’s also a little ‘healer’, using his knowledge of and connection with the natural world to heal those in need of assistance.
Autumn is kindly and very protective of her little brother. She is more than dependable and helpful when needed. And, she’s always up for a great adventure. She takes on a ‘big sister’ role with all of the Hug-Me’z as well! When Autumn and Sam are lead back home by their new LOSH friends, they become the conduit for the LOSH Bears to enter the human world to spread kindness through children in need throughout the world.
Sam’s a happy-go-lucky human boy, whose best friend in LOSH is Blueberry – and Fig – and Tuffy… He likes to play with them all! Sam is unaware of danger, perhaps because of his age, and he certainly shows this trait in the 1st junior novel and storybook, “The Magical Forest”. He is quite oblivious and innocent/naïve to the trouble that he and his sister get into when lost in the forest. Autumn’s love for her bother, and bravery in protecting him, and Sam’s innocent and pure heart, were the ultimate ticket that brought them to LOSH.
Bijou is Autumn and Sam’s small pet ‘Yorkie’ dog. He’s brown/black in colour. Since entering the world of LOSH, Bijou has been able to talk, yet he speaks very seldomly, delivering a single, often comical and always memorable, line in each episode with his distinct lisp and sophisticated English accent. He is fiercely loyal and protective of the children and his newfound friends. He loves to hang out and play, making him a perfect companion for the Hug-Me’z, who he accompanies throughout almost every episode. Though he rarely has an active role in the plot, he is always there to help whenever he is needed.
Silver is the wise elder of LOSH and a well-respected leader, often having the entire community coming to him for advice. Though no one knows his exact age (some say he’s over 300 years old), he looks like a typical 50-year-old. He often oversees the Hug-Me’z activity around LOSH or is the one they turn to for teachings about the natural world. Given his deep wisdom as a pinnacle figure of LOSH, a beacon of kindness, he can sense when children are in need of kindness throughout the world and in future stories, he assembles the Hug-Me’z and others to explain and direct their journeys to assist these children in need, in the human world.
Calista is a young (early teens) and very inquisitive blue bear. She talks incessantly and is always questioning herself and what goes on around her. “Believing in herself” led to Calista touching a ‘fallen star’ which not only helped save the realm of LOSH, but also gifted her the magical abilities to transform into Starbear, who can fly at incredible speeds and glow as bright a shooting star! Calista is very well-liked and respected by her peers in LOSH who know that, although she appears shy and hesitant and doesn’t typically ‘play’ like the other bears (she’s always off on her own to learn), she is one the most trustworthy and kindest bears out there! She is often the most likely to accompany the Hug-Me’z on Hug-Me journeys in future stories.
Rose is a young teenage girl, and a lovingly pink colour. In an earlier episode of the series, her golden heart-shaped locked is filled with a mysterious magical gold dust, bestowed upon her by the mystical kindness bear ‘Goldheart’ for demonstrating immense kindness to beings of all kinds. Rose is always offering the Hug-Me’z assistance and aid in their exuberant endeavors, and is someone they can always trust for great advice or assistance.
Tuffy is a young teenaged light brown male bear with a big tuft of dark brown straggly hair that almost falls over his eyes. He is very strong and courageous, and naturally, protective and caring over those he loves the most, often being the first to shield the Hug-Me’z if it seems danger may be near. Like Rose and Blueberry, in forthcoming stories, Tuffy too will be granted with a magical ability – super strength. In times of physical trouble, Tuffy is able to find his ‘inner strength’, which then manifests externally, as the spiral on his shirt begins to spin and sparkle and he feels great strength. When Tuffy, proud of his magic, announces, “my magic came from my shirt”, the wise Silver corrects him and says, “No Tuffy. It came from your heart.”
Melody is Rose’s mother and she plays a strong, caring, motherly role for all of the inhabitants of LOSH. Like Silver, Melody also contains immense wisdom, and uses it only to hint the Hug-Me’z in the right direction when they’re in need of assistance. Melody is a light shade of pink, with long darker pink hair and the most welcoming of smiles!
Rusty is a young teenage bear who is best friends with Tuffy and Grady. Rusty is an innocent yet often reckless pursuer of ‘fun’ in all of its forms – almost like a bit of a (slightly more?) grown up Fig! Though he is clumsy and forgetful, it’s all in the name of having a good time. Rusty is always one to have a positive attitude and find new things to get excited about, helping lift people’s moods in even he most dire of situations!
Grady is the best and most loyal friend anyone could ask for! He is the same age as Tuffy and Rusty and always looking out for his friends. He is very sensitive and caring for others, with a soft heart yet loud and encouraging persona. Despite this propensity towards friendship, Grady is not swayed by what others think and follows his own path.
Rabbit is a rhyming rabbit whose mind is set entirely in his own world. He’s very eccentric and, in his own quirky way, always comes up with clever solutions to problems. In the storybook and eventual episode, Pots and Og, it is revealed that he is dyslexic, yet still encouraged and valued by his friends for his unique traits and quirks.
Squirrel is a little rascal, often causing innocent mayhem in the backgrounds of most scenes – he’s always throwing acorns at you! He is a good friend of Rabbit and Mouse and very protective of all of his friends.
Mouse is an elderly, yet agile, gray forest mouse who is incredibly wise and often speaks in poetic parables and proverbs. He seems to see and sense danger before it happens. The history of Mouse is revealed in the 4th junior novel, ‘The Story of Jaggy Finn’, and we can then see what a pivotal role he plays in the entire history of LOSH itself. Mouse takes on narrative roles when necessary throughout the episodes, and along with Rabbit, delivers each episode’s conclusive lines.
